Providing a helping hand

A call to action

We’re currently forming a new all-volunteer non-profit organization with the sole purpose of alleviating the needless suffering of animals.  A big task, I know…but we’re serious about making a difference!

The organization is just starting to ramp up and the site is still under construction, so the content is changing often.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us at: info@FranklinsTale.org

As we gather our thoughts and work on the organization, we invite you to read some additional information about us below.

The story of a stray cat, a broken foot, and lots of love

The idea of starting a wildlife rescue began when a feral cat with a broken leg showed up on our doorstep. Temperatures were below freezing on most nights in Northern Arizona at the time so the only thing we could do was help him survive.

After many attempts to find help among the existing private and Government animal rescue groups, we soon discovered that there were limited resources for cats found in the wild…and none for injured feral or roaming “wild” cats. This was unacceptable!

With help from our animal loving neighbors, we asked our local veterinarian to perform an exam with X rays and bloodwork. As it turns out, our newfound friend was a young healthy (unaltered) male cat hindered only by a severely broken foot.

So with assistance from my animal loving mother and father, we were able to fund the needed surgery to repair his foot. Mr. Franklin, as we started referring to our broken-footed little buddy, is now recovering in a warm and safe home with other animals to keep him company.

But what about all the other suffering animals out there, in the cold, with no resources to help?  And so our adventure begins…

About Us

Who are we?

We’re Franklin’s Tale Wildlife Rescue, a small group of like-minded animal lovers that want to help reduce the needless suffering of animals.  It breaks our hearts to see any animal suffer so we want to be an active part of the solution!

Although we’re just getting started, we believe we have assembled a wonderful team of caring individuals to guide the organization.  Our initial Board of Directors is made up of a retired Fire Chief, a retired Senior Police Officer, a published Archeologist, and a Military Veteran.

What are we going to do?

We recognize that there are many great animal rescue organizations trying to help. It is not our intention to crowd that space with yet another animal rescue doing the same function.

Rather, we intend to help solve the larger problem by:
  • Assisting rescue groups and others by providing funding, logistics, and manpower so immediate help to animals is always available.
  • Encouraging individuals and organizations to help suffering animals by providing tax-free incentives and resources.
  • Affecting local, county, state, and federal legislation to ensure animal suffering is a priority so adequate funding of resources is available.
  • Conducting and/or reviewing academic, Government, and private research related to the larger issue of animal overpopulation, resource management, Government policies, and the overall reduction of animal suffering.
Our overarching intent to is to make sure the limited animal rescue resources are focused on the problem areas, augment those resources where needed, and make sure we have adequate policies and procedures in place at all levels of the Government to solve the problems related animal welfare.

How are we going to do it?

Coverage Area
We’ll crawl before we walk and walk before we run. We plan to start with the local area of Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Dewey Humbolt in Arizona. We can then expand outward to all of Yavapai County, then add other counties within Arizona. The ultimate plan is to expand nationwide, helping other states and municipalities as we grow.

Standard Operating Procedures
  • Make animal rescue contacts within the regional coverage area.
  • Through the networked rescue organizations, discover gaps in coverage (i.e., traps, cages, volunteers, money, expertise, veterinarians, education, etc.)
  • Through corporate, Government, and individual donations, fund materials and manpower to fill the gaps.
  • Provide animal rescue educational resources to the public.
  • Provide tax-free incentivized services to allow self-help animal rescue efforts.
  • Expand as funding and volunteers allow.
  • Seek Government contacts within the regional coverage area to help understand existing policies and funding procedures.
Structure
Many people in the organization will work multiple efforts, such as augmenting manpower of rescue groups or transporting animals. But the basic structure of the Franklin’s Tale organization will be as follows:
  • Board of Directors – Oversee finances, legal structures, and overall direction.
  • Operations – Runs the day-to-day business activities as the BoD sees fit.
  • Funding – Dedicated to finding and promoting the intake of funding.
  • Legislation/policy and procedures – Dedicated to discovering and understanding the existing legislative boundaries as well as how to operate within the established Governmental policies and procedures.
